![]() So the review books and the test banks pile up. What I think is a better approach is to write down a disease or disorder from NCCPA blueprint. Then take the task areas from the content blueprint and answer those as if they were a question. ![]() If can legitimately write down answers to everything then have a great grasp of the subject. If can then answer questions about the disorder from test banks, need to spend time with something can't write on extensively or perform poorly on using test banks. Have to be very motivated to do this on your own. I don't know why so many people get worked up about not passing the PANCE and how stressed out they are about it. Do you guys realize that 95% of 1st time test takers pass? Think about that for a second. So for an average class of 35 students that's 1-2 students failing. This is also how long term FM, IM and EM PAs can sit for the PANRE without preparation and handily pass. Are you the dumbest 1 or 2 people in your class? If you got a 124 on the Packrat that means you were just below average, which means you are still way above passing. That is what your successful career as a PA will be based upon. Instead develop functional medical knowledge for the long term. ![]() Step away from 'studying', whatever that is. Other strategies are available to encode this knowledge for the long term. The medical knowledge that you will require to be successful on PANCE is not something to binge and purge but to start hardwiring. This is where retrieval practice ( ) is important for success. The caveat as you point out is will there be deterioration of medical knowledge between now and PANCE. Others use it as an indicator of PANCE preparation and there are several studies that indicate the PACKRAT, the PAEA EORE and program home grown summative exams can all serve as predictors. Some use it as a litmus test of the effectiveness for didactic curriculum to prepare for clinical education, at least the medical knowledge portion. The motivation of programs when they provide the PACKRAT is varied. Providing it several months prior can outline weaknesses and set a schedule for improvement. In fact, I don't understand providing the PACKRAT close to graduation, the horse is already out of the barn. With 5/10 rotations to go, I would qualify that as consistent with what I stated. I read my note again and did not mention taking the PACKRAT close to graduation. Of course I will continue studying for the PANCE but I'm trying to gauge how accurate the PACKRAT is in predicting my success on the PANCE and how much time after graduation should I give myself to study the material before taking it?ġ59 is a good score partway through the year. My concern is that my PACKRAT score now won't be as good of a predictor as to whether I will pass since I'm still 6 months away from graduation. When you mentioned taking the PACKRAT "close to graduation," how close are you referring? I feel like I performed relatively decent only because I have had to study basically general medicine for my EOR exams thus far and the information is relatively fresh in my head. I have rotated through internal medicine, emergency medicine, family medicine, and dermatology. I am starting my rotation 5 of 10 this upcoming Monday. I scored above or = national average in every section except psych/behavioral, OBGYN/women's health, and endocrinology. Unfortunately, my program only provided 1 PACKRAT exam. I just took my PACKRAT today and scored a 159. Concerning preparation for PACKRAT, there is a content blueprint at .Īs pointed out, if your program is doing it right, they can do regression analysis across cohorts and place performance in context with current curriculum. Both the PANCE and PACKRAT are summative exams that change content every year. My limited experience is that for students whom can score at 70% or higher at 2nd PACKRAT close to graduation will have a high likelihood of passing PANCE.Īs for a formula to predict, don't bother. Next goal is to increase from first score. Hopefully your program administers a 2nd time partway through the clinical year. That is actually not that bad for end of didactic term. ![]() PACKRAT is scored out of 225 questions, so obtaining a 140 = 62%. Request the results which also include keyword feedback to highlight what a PACKRAT taker got wrong. If your program is not releasing results to you but only providing a score then that is not helpful. Good goal is to be above national mean for your form which the results will outline. There are 2 forms used every year, current year and preceding. In those results, you will find comparison to class and national mean for the form of the exam. Your program can release the results to you from PACKRAT. ![]() ![]() ![]() Mooradian, Sharon Plummer, Francisco Fuentes, Roberto Robles, Victor R. This makes the carry pretty stiff, like we’re hauling around a giant brick. The back panel is very flat against our backs, especially when we try to cinch the straps down to carry the bag higher up. However, we can also feel this structure when we’re carrying it-and not in a good way. It’s nice that the pack can stand up on its own. Now, let’s talk about this bag’s structure. We’ve also it works as a handle to pick the bag up if it’s ever laying on the ground with the back facing up (which isn’t often because this pack’s rigid structure allows it to stand upright on its own, which we appreciate). ![]() There’s a luggage pass-through inside of the air channel so if you’re traveling with roller luggage, you can easily slip this bag over the handle. The back panel on the Tech Pack 2 has some dense padding and mesh lining, with an air-channel down the middle to create more airflow-but again, it’s a black-on-black bag, so that dreaded Swamp Back still makes an appearance in warmer weather. And like the shoulder straps, it has an elastic keeper to keep dangling to a minimum. Its attachment feels secure so we’re not worried about losing it. Aer Tech Pack 2 Sternum StrapĪs for the sternum strap, it’s pretty standard-you can adjust it by sliding it up and down to wherever it feels comfortable. On the straps, you’ve got a D-ring where you can attach a carabiner and strap keepers to help contain all the excess strap (so at least you’re not dealing with any dangle). They’re also lined with mesh for some added breathability-although it’s an all-black bag, so we’ve found it still gets pretty toasty when we’re out in the summer heat. The amount of padding makes them comfortable enough, but not overbuilt. The shoulder straps on the Tech Pack 2 are also classic Aer (are you sensing a theme?). External Components Aer Tech Pack 2 Shoulder Straps Like most of our experiences with the brand, everything has been working smoothly so far in our testing. ![]() Aer Tech Pack 2 ZippersĪnd lastly, there’s some Duraflex hardware on here. So for all the international spies who may be reading this, this pack is not very stealthy-you may need to keep looking. They’re super jangly (if you’re familiar with Aer bags you’ve probably encountered these before). And while the look of this bag may be subtle, the zipper pulls are not. But they can also get sticky when we’re using them, especially around corners, which can slow down our access. You’ll find AquaGuard YKK zippers throughout this pack that are robust and water-resistant, to protect your gear from the elements. Aer uses this fabric on almost everything, and it does not disappoint-it’s a tough material that always holds up (in our experience, anyway). The rest of the exterior is constructed with 1680D CORDURA Ballistic nylon. It has sustained some scuffs during our testing, but they’re minor and merely aesthetic so far. Material-wise, the front of this pack is made with 840D nylon finished with a PU (polyurethane) coating for added durability and water resistance-and added sleekness, aesthetically speaking. Its shape also has a big impact on the carry, but we’ll get into that in the next section. Due to its bulky, square shape, however, we can’t say this thing is low-profile-it’s noticeably big when we’ve got it on. It doesn’t bother us any as we think the black-on-black of the materials helps keep this bag looking sleek. Aer Tech Pack 2 LogoĪt the time of this review, the Aer Tech Pack 2 is only available in black-so if you’re hoping for something more vibrant, you won’t find it here. All of these are subtle and blend in nicely for a streamlined, professional aesthetic. You’ll find a white-on-black tag on the bottom right side of the bag and on the inside of the laptop compartment, as well as a glossy Aer logo on each one of the exterior zipper pulls. In typical Aer style, the branding on this pack is pretty minimal. You know what they say, time flies when you’re testing bags-so let’s get to it. In this review, we’re going to talk about the Aer Tech Pack 2, which is a revamp of the original Tech Pack that features new materials and new organization, while still retaining that classic Aer craftsmanship. ![]() This pack is part of Aer’s Work Collection, featuring updated versions of some of their previous packs. ![]() And over the last two weeks, we’ve gotten to know another one-the Aer Tech Pack 2. However, in June 2021, by popular demand of the fans, Rovio announced that the classic games will be available on the stores again sometime in the future. Rovio has declined to explain their reasoning behind the decision apart from a brief tweet and support response, both giving different answers. Maybe it's a book you don't like–that's even better. “It's a great idea to go to your bookshelf, close your eyes, and pick a random book to narrate. Refining Your Skills as an Audiobook Narrator Practice It turned out the interviewer said the person's name wrong. “We were recording a nonfiction book and the narrator watched a video of an interview with this person and used the pronunciation of their name for the book. Plus, this research may save you from potentially embarrassing situations in the booth. “So rather than pretending to know it all, the ability to know what you don't know, and to go out there and do that research is important,” says Lambrix. You’re just narrating a book, right? But what happens when you’re in the studio and you stumble across a word, country name, or anything else you aren't familiar with how to say? Doing your research beforehand can go a long way towards making your narrating skills that much better. And it's a lot it's not just sitting and talking," Lambrix acknowledges. So, you have to physically be able to do it. “We tend to record about six hours a day. But in reality, these hours can chug along and exhaust you in the process, so it’s important to be able to keep up as best you can. Getting through a day of narrating may seem simple: you’re sitting down for a few hours and reading a book you like (hopefully) out loud. “Inevitably you'll run into a scene with seven sisters or four women who are in their 30s, and you have to find a way to make their voices all sound distinct for your listener,” says Lambrix. This may seem like another given but knowing how to expertly embody characters of different backgrounds is an essential skill that will separate you from other narrators. But no matter what, being able to act is a foundational skill…you’re telling a story, and it’s not your story." Ability to Differentiate Voices, Accents, and Dialects Some people have come to us from other parts of the acting world. "Lots of people have gone to theater school.
